This is what a real mom does.
Khambrel Hadley allegedly admitted to his mother that he killed his girlfriend Alyssa Oakes at their Deland, Fla. apartment.
Khambrel Hadley has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of girlfriend Alyssa Oakes.
A Florida mother turned in her son to the police after he admitted to murdering his girlfriend and dumping her body in the woods, authorities said.
Khambrel Hadley, 20, was arrested Friday afternoon and charged with second-degree murder for the death of Alyssa Oakes, 19.
“This is still very much an active investigation,” Deland Police Sgt. Chris Estes told the Daily News on Tuesday. “A grand jury has been convened for today and we are waiting to see the results of that.”
Oakes’ dead body was discovered abandoned in Lake County on Saturday.
The Orlando Police Department received the call from Hadley’s mother on Friday and requested assistance from police in Deland, where the young couple shared an apartment.
Deland police were already looking into Hadley’s actions. At 5:21 a.m. they had received a call from another Hunters Creek apartment resident who said he saw Hadley drive away in his car.
Local detectives went to their unlocked home, identified themselves and entered. After a glance around the detectives quickly realized they would need a warrant for a thorough search of the believed murder scene.
“Investigators continue to work both crime scenes to verify the information received and to also associate evidence with the alleged homicide,” the Deland Police Department said in a statement.
