Remember I brought you details of this story in June? Well, the matter is now in court and if convicted, 50 might wind up spending about five years in jail. Meanwhile we still don’t have details of what triggered the altercation o but of course he is pleading not guilty.
I don’t know about you but I think the willingness with which these men allow themselves to become victims is just appalling. When they are not being “trapped” into becoming fathers (e.g Simon Cowell), they are being slammed with domestic violence charges (think Chris Brown). What is going on dudes? When will you smarten up and refuse to be manipulated like that? Its been the same story since the days of Samson. “Poor men” being conned by wily women.
Toh. Una Pele o.
Rapper and actor 50 Cent has pleaded not guilty on charges that he attacked his ex-girlfriend and trashed her condo.
The singer, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, appeared in a courtroom in Van Nuys, California on Monday morning.
If convicted, the In Da Club singer faces up to five years in jail and $46,000 in fines.
As with all domestic violence cases in California, Jackson must keep at least 100 feet away from his accuser, named in court as Daphne Narvaez, and must not seek to contact her or any family members while the case is active.
A Los Angeles County judge also ordered the Candy Shop singer to submit any weapons in his possession to law enforcement within the next 24 hours.
The charges against Jackson stem from a police report filed by Narvaez claiming that the performer destroyed property at her Toluca Lake condo on June 23.
Narvaez says she locked herself in her bedroom only to have Jackson break open the door and kicked her, causing injury.
Police estimated about $7,100 in damage to the home.
Narvaez, who models under the stage name Daphne Joy, told police she had been in a three-year relationship and has a baby with Jackson.
As he was leaving the court on Monday, cameras caught the performer being served with paperwork regarding a child custody battle related to the case.
50 Cent has not acknowledged having a child with Narvaez, though he does have a 16-year-old son named Marquise with his ex-girlfriend Shaniqua Tompkins.
Jackson’s lawyers Scott Lemon and Leonard Levine spoke with the press after the court appearance, commenting that the rapper is ‘handling it well’ and continues to deny the allegations.
‘We’re going to make no comment at this time out of respect for the system,’ they added.
When asked about Narvaez’ claim that the two share a child together, they simply stated ‘no comment.’
Last month, City Attorney Mike Feuer said in a statement: ‘Regardless of perceived celebrity or notoriety, domestic violence is a serious crime, and alleged perpetrators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law by this office.’
He is scheduled to appear in court on September 4.
The New York rapper is no stranger to the law, as he started dealing drugs at age 12 during the 1980s crack epidemic that hit urban America hard and left drug dealing to pursue a rap career.
He has become on of the world’s highest selling rappers and founded his own record label G-Unit Records in 2003.
Jackson has starred in several films including the semi-autobiographical Get Rich or Die Tryin’, which was also the name off his 2003 album.
50 Cent formerly dated talk show host Chelsea Handler and singer Ciara.
