Well, when you consider Columbine and other school massacres masterminded by seemingly innocent kids, I can sympathize with the authorities for not simply winking this away.
After all, prevention is better than cure and if he is already fantasizing about killing innocents and eating their still beating hearts in a country that has experienced such terrorism many times over, it would take a particularly deluded police force not to take steps against the dude.
Sorry mom, if your kid was joking he might be in need of some serious psychiatric help. He wants to eat ” the beating heart of one of them” for God’s sake. There is nothing remotely funny about that. If there is one thing I have learned, just by watching movies, its that law enforcement have a very poor sense o humor especially when it comes to matters relating to public security!
Jennifer Carter of Maitland, Fla., says the authorities are overreacting to a joke by her son, Justin, who said, ‘I’m a shoot up a kindergarten and watch the blood of the innocent rain down … and eating the beating heart of one of them.’
A mother’s online petition has garnered more than 100,000 signatures pleading for her 19-year-old son’s freedom after his dreadful attempt at humor landed him behind bars.
All joking aside, this mother wants her son back.
A mother’s online petition garnered more than 100,000 signatures pleading for her 19-year-old son’s freedom after his dreadful attempt at humor landed him behind bars.
“The authorities’ over-reaction is ruining Justin’s life,” said Jennifer Carter of Maitland, Fla. “And it’s setting a dangerous example trying to punish kids who often say strange things that I believe are protected under freedom of speech.”
Justin Carter’s sick punch line revolved around slaughtered schoolchildren. His mother claims the sarcasm did not come across over the Internet.
“I think I’m a shoot up a kindergarten,” he wrote, “and watch the blood of the innocent rain down … and eating the beating heart of one of them.”
The New Braunfels, Texas, man reportedly followed that statement with “lol” and “jk” but it was no laughing matter for authorities – especially two months after the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre.
An alarmed Canadian woman read his comment and reported it to police. Justin Carter was arrested for making a terroristic threat and could face up to eight years in prison.
Jennifer Carter argues that the authorities’ overreaction has ruined her son’s life.
“While stuck in jail, Justin has been assaulted a number of times. He has been locked in solitary confinement for weeks. I urgently need your help,” she pleaded.
The family cannot afford the $500,000 bail.
“To this day, Justin has not had a trial,” she said. “No weapons were found during a search of his apartment, and so we’re really confused and heartbroken that our family is being violated like this.”
The admittedly poor humor that landed Justin Carter in jail stemmed from an argument he had with another player on League of Legends, an online fantasy videogame.
The disagreement spilled over onto Facebook, where he claims someone called him “crazy and messed up in the head,” which sparked the sarcastic remark.
